I was born and raised in India and now I'm a US citizen. While growing up, my family and I moved frequently because my father was employed with the Indian Air Force. I had the opportunity to live in different parts of the Indian subcontinent. My love, passion and affection to understand the animal kingdom started early on as I was growing up. My grandparents had a big influence on what I am today. My grandmother used to tell me that the noblest thing I could do is to give animals food and water. My grandfather always wished to see me become a veterinarian.
After completing the requirements for a DVM program at Iowa State University, I completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at All Care Animal Referral Center in Southern California. I then joined the University of Illinois for a residency and MS program in small animal clinical oncology. I am board-certified with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the specialty of oncology. I further obtained board certification with American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in canine and feline species.
Over the past 15 years I became good friends with Dr. Michael P. Moore and decided to join him in opening Silicon Valley Veterinary Specialists, a new state of the art referral and emergency center in South Bay. I have lived in this community for the past decade and have felt that the companion animals in this community deserve the best in veterinary specialty medicine. Together with Dr. Moore, we bring specialists in various fields of veterinary medicine to practice in the beautiful South Bay and the surrounding rural community.
I also view myself as an educator, and voluntarily serve on various professional associations to expand veterinary internal medicine profession and educate the new, current and future veterinarians. I firmly believe in educating my clients about their pet’s health, managing their diseases and empowering them with the latest approaches available. Since all cancer cases do not need a procedure I’m a firm believer of palliative care. Please do not hesitate to call me if I can be of any help or assistance.
My special interest lies in challenging hematology cases. Over the years I have authored or co-authored 20 refereed publications in peer reviewed scientific journals, 8 research abstracts, and several book chapters. I had the opportunity to speak at various scientific and professional forums. During my cancer training program I was a selected participant at the Molecular Biology of Cancer workshop in Aspen Colorado, sponsored by American Association for Cancer Research. Besides being an active member of several veterinary associations I’m also an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
In my free time, besides being an oncologist, I also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing. I have a special interest in theatre and have always enjoyed music and drama. Believe it or not I still enjoy ballroom dancing.
