Dr. Ryan Wheeler grew up in the East Bay always knowing he wanted to practice veterinary medicine. He graduated from Chico State University and attended veterinary school at Ross University with his clinical rotations done at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Wheeler was the first non-University of Minnesota student to receive the emergency and critical-care award.
Dr. Wheeler pursued further training by doing a small animal emergency and surgery internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. He completed his residency in emergency and critical care in the East Bay in January of 2016.
Dr. Wheeler's medical interest include fluid and electrolyte therapy, acid base analysis, the treatment of severe sepsis and septic shock, and the treatment of traumatic injuries. Dr. Wheeler has co-authored a chapter in the book "Monitoring and Intervention for the Critically Ill Small Animal: The Rule of 20" and he enjoys lecturing and teaching.
Dr. Wheeler enjoys all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine. He enjoys taking care of critically ill and injured animals in their time of need and supporting their owners through that difficult time. Dr. Wheeler looks forward to providing exceptional care to the pets and owners of the South Bay and is excited to be part of the Silicon Valley Veterinary Specialists team.
In his free time Dr. Wheeler enjoys the outdoors, obstacle racing, CrossFit, and fly fishing.
